book review: the mortal instruments {city of glass}

Note: I was half way reading City of Glass when I got my hands on Shadowland. So yes, I was pretty excited with Shadowland but didn't miss a minute to catch up with the third book of the Mortal Instruments series the moment I was done with the Immortals. I really got to see the difference between the two authors' style of writing. I think I prefer Cassandra's but that does not mean Alyson Noel's doesn't have her own uniqueness. I hate comparing writers since all of them are special, it just depends on the readers way of perception.

By now, I'm sort of like in a Fantasy series readthon? Since I've been reading this kind of books lately non-stop.
If you haven't read City of Bones and City of Ashes I suggest for you to stop. )

Conclusion: Love//Like//Whatever//Dislike//Hate
~City of Glass is undoubtedly a Love.
I believe I enjoy City of Glass more than the other books from the series.
{Rating?}

I absolutely adore all of The Mortal Instruments covers.
If I'm not wrong this one features our very handsome Alec ;}
*MAJOR SPOILER* )

book review: shadowland

Note: OH MY. Yes, I got my hands on Shadowland. The Immortals third book! Wanted to post this review now.

Conclusion: Love//Like//Whatever//Dislike//Hate
~Shadowland is a Like.
Close to being a Love. I don't think any of the books from the Immortal series would ever be as good as Evermore was.
{I don't understand this rating}

hum...pretty amulets ;)

book review: the mortal instruments {city of bones, city of ashes}

Note: I KNOW. I am so cheating. I told you it was just a matter of time. I've already read another book which I'd be posting a review later on. I'm currently reading City of Glass which is the sequel to City of Ashes. I am officially addicted with the Mortal Instruments. Funny how similar to Hush, Hush is {in the subject of nephilims and so}

I recommend this series to Fantasy//Romance//Adventure readers. Has lots of monsters and fights and action that we all deep down love.

SPOILER MUCH )

Conclusion
: Love//Like//Whatever//Dislike//Hate
~City of Bones & City of Ashes are Love.
What more can I say? Faeries, werewolves, vampires, demons, SHADOWHUNTERS? Give me my glasses I'm reading City of Glass now.
{How does this rating work?}

I LOVE the covers.

PS. I heard the Mortal Instruments are on their way to the big screen. *Screams of excitement*

book review: hush, hush

Note: I'm so not in the mood to write a book review but let's pretend nothing is bugging me.

The reason why I chose to read Hush, hush was mainly because of the cover. I know that sounds stupid and not very original but it's the truth. It was obvious what the book would be about by just giving a look to the cover and I was gripped by the "fallen angel" theme. Evidently, this book is a Fantasy//Romance novel which I'm a sucker for. If you enjoyed Twilight, Shiver, Wings or Evermore you should without a doubt read Hush, hush. I laughed so hard I had to stop in various occasions. The way the two main characters {Nora and Patch} behave in front of each other is just hilarious. There's a lot of sex references in this book ;P Though Patch was being sort of too bitchy with her at first but who cares? He's F dreamy. The book held me from beginning to end. If you're wondering, there's some action going on.
There was something that sort of bothered me: Some things in the book were really similar to the story I wrote {Invisible} but apart from that, it was awesome.

Conclusion: Love//Like//Whatever//Dislike//Hate
 ~Hush, hush is a Love.
But you probably figure that out by now. I just freaking adore this book. Funny, intriguing, and a fantasy romance? P-E-R-F-E-C-T.
{About my ratings}

See what I mean about the cover? Fallen angels are steamy ;)

book review: memoirs of a teenage amnesiac

The whole forgetting a chunk of you life topic was pretty interesting for me. It reminded me to this book by Sophie Kinsella, Remember Me? Though, Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac it's from a, well obviously, teen girl's point of view. I enjoyed how the story started and I liked how the other characters were described and acted as well. But as the book began to unfold I wasn't sure how the story would go on. I can't deny it held me intrigued but I didn't like how James turned out at the end. Call me cliche but I like a complete happy ending or just make it tragic and epic when it comes to love stories. Something should had happened with Will I mean, come on! I doubt there would be a sequel but it ended so...abruptly? Incomplete? I just didn't like that ending at all. It left me doubting.

Conclusion
: Love//Like//Whatever//Dislike//Hate
This is the first book from Gabrielle Zevin that I've read. The writing style was of my liking and the theme of the story but...should had said more in that ending.
 ~Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac is a Like.
Almost a Whatever {WL} *sigh*

Note: Just found out this novel would be made into a movie in Japan and will be released on 2010. The names will be changed and in Japanese. One thing I don't get much is what the hell is Emma Roberts doing there? She'd be playing Alice, and Ace would be an American actor as well but the rest seemed to be Japanese so doesn't make any sense. My parents are Japanese by the way :P I think the author has some Asian heritage.

I really like the cover and think it describes the novel perfectly.

i love rain

I received some very awesome news: My other order has finally arrived at my house! I've been looking forward to read Hush, Hush and luckily there's no assignments or homeworks for tomorrow from schmschool {yay for that} and also I finished reading all of the other books so it was at a perfect timing ;) And because I finished reading all the books that means I'd be posting the book review for Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac right now and...I'm not going to say anything yet. You'd find out in the book review.
Another thing is that I'm going to pause with the reading for a while and start working on my writing projects which are all incomplete and I think that's awfully sucky for a wannabe writer x.x. So, whenever I post a book review after Hush, Hush that means I'm cheating! {I typed whenever and not if because we all know that's just a matter of time before I give in into reading}.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

book review: the perks of being a wallflower

Note: I was {and still going} through some not-so-good-moments-in-life which the book helped out since it was a perfect way to escape of reality and still feel in the real world. I am thankful for this book to exist. I know I'm not making much sense right now but maybe you'll understand in the future though, I hope you don't, considering how awful these not-so-good-moments-in-life are.

I thought I knew what this book would contain but I was absolutely wrong. One word: Intense. This book is non-stop drama. In the actual way not the fake way. It felt agonizing how much shit people can go through and still act...normal? The book was about this 15-year old kid named Charlie who wrote letters to an unknown character about his freshman year {which whoa seems about a lifetime not just one year at high school}. To be honest, I wouldn't consider Charlie a wallflower, even a wallflower is the protagonist in their life. I really liked how sincere and crystal-clear Charlie wrote those letters. I wouldn't be capable of showing someone {even if I might not see that person ever} my life as truthful as he did. And I really liked Charlie {which is odd, I usually hate main characters}. I would have liked to have a friend like him. I didn't know the book had an epilogue so I freaked out for a few seconds but found it almost right away. The book couldn't end so abruptly or I would have hated it. The epilogue was sad but happy at the same time. I think this is the best non-fantasy book I've ever read.

Conclusion: Love//Like//Whatever//Dislike//Hate
~The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a Love.
I don't think there's anything else needed to say.

fallen so deeply

i'm a happy person

Note: I didn't plan to but my LJ is slowly becoming more of, well, a Journal. Don't worry I'm still focusing on book reviews.

 So today I only took 2 hours of class at school because I was picked to help with some Cultural Fair the school had going on for the elementary grades {which means lazy time!}. Though I would have preferred to have missed the last 2 hours as well since I had exams on both classes T.T I did well on the first one but Math...yeah I suck. Anyways, when I got home my mom says: "Midori, your books are here." It takes me 2 seconds to understand what she's saying then I go F nuts: start jumping around and screaming because I'm that pathetic. I love my new books. Although I already read {more like listened to the audiobook} Shiver I began reading it again because I freaking adore it. Other books that arrived were: Memoirs of a Teenage Amnesiac by Gabrielle Zevin & The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. I'm waiting for Hush, Hush to arrive as well. So excited to read them all!

Hope everyone is having a great week! :)

book review: the forest of hands and teeth

Note: OMG. I'm posting another book review already?! Told you I'm going to read like crazy now.

The Forest of Hands and Teeth is supposed to be a horror-sort-of novel since it includes flesh eating zombies and end of humanity sort of thing {though it didn't really scare me}. The enigma of the forest reminded me of the movie {don't know if it's based on a book} The Village where people weren't allowed to trespass the boundaries of the forest because it was dangerous and unknown. The difference is that in The Forest of Hands and Teeth you can see the danger right there. The Unconsecrated are always at the fences just waiting for someone to get close enough or make a damage on the fences so they can enter inside the secure village where maybe the last hope of human kind lives. The story was tragic, and sad. The whole Sisterhood scheme pissed me off. So much death is in this book. And I did not like AT ALL who dies. There's a love triangle...or square? {if we include Cass} It's sort of ironic that Catching Fire {the previews book I posted a review} also had this love triangle. The ocean obsession the main character {Mary} had was a bit annoying but it gave some meaning to go on which I liked.
The ending, oh those endings. I would have much preferred for a more precise ending. Though there's a second book coming which I think the title it's a give away to the ones who haven't read the first one yet so I'm not telling!

Conclusion: Love//Like//Whatever//Dislike//Hate
~The Forest of Hands and Teeth is a Like.
To be more exact WL. The story was good, well-written, and interesting I can't deny that. But I didn't sympathize much with Mary and I wished for a better unfolded ending. It was almost a cliff-hanger! {which I hate} Maybe it was just too tragic for my taste.

Found a video trailer which I liked.

rating

Note: Now that I'm done with the SAT and TOEFL I will be having more free time which means more reading! :D

I know my system of rating books is not exactly the best so I've decided to make some specifications:

~Hate. Burn the book. Puke on it. Do not even give it away to someone, you don't want to cause someone so much pain do you?
~Dislike. I didn't die but wasn't what I expected at all. Just a huge disappointment. Doubt someone else would like it.
~Whatever. I wished it wasn't so dull. The author could had made it more interesting. It was just OK. Nothing special.
~Like. There's 2 different types of likes. One that is closest to Whatever {WL} and another one closest to Love {LL}. WL is a nice reading, enjoyed it but was missing something. LL was a book I just adored, really entertaining, and would definitely recommend to anyone.
~Love. Worth buying it, and if I haven't, buying it asap! This is what I call the perfect kind of book for me. Without a doubt, all of my friends would be informed of the existence of this book.

My way of rating is based on my own opinions. Everyone has their own way of looking at things so we might or might not agree on my choices.
